	The Stiles Group was founded in 1995 as an outgrowth of an entrepreneurial training program that taught Charleston Naval Shipyard employees the skills necessary to develop business plans to start businesses in the private sector when the shipyard closed in 1996.
Over 100 shipyard employees participated in the program and over 70 of those trainees opened businesses upon completion of their training and a majority of those businesses are still operating today. A number of the original businesses have been bought out or have merged with other companies.
